Dreamberries (also known as Bearberries among Humans) are a kind of fruit native to Abode.
They are toxic to humans but have a pleasant intoxicating effect on Elves, who love them for this.
Pike is famous for his love of dreamberries, and will often gulp them by the handful when he has the chance. To him, a Holt isn't truly established until the first dreamberry bushes have matured. Bearclaw was also known for his great tolerance for the berries.
They have a similar effect for Trolls who will also consume them and have a greater tolerance for them than Elves (possibly due to their more robust physiology in general). Old Maggoty was known for her potent dreamberry wine. One night Bearclaw caught her stealing berries from near the Elves' Holt but this marked the beginning of a trading relationship between the two groups with the two acting as liaisons. This was at least as much an excuse for Bearclaw to indulge in his vices of gambling and drink with the more accepting Trolls as actually negotiating.
The feeling of Recognition, especially if the couple go for too long without consummating the joining, is often compared to "sitting in a thornberry bush, gulping overripe dreamberries while having a sand flea up your nose."
