Blue Mountain, home of the Gliders, first appears in the third original volume of Elfquest. It reappears in Siege at Blue Mountain, hence the name. Lord Voll created it as a haven for those descended from the High Ones who still wish to keep the old ways. The majority of Wolfriders are taken captive by the Chosen Eight of Blue Mountain after Strongbow shoots down Kureel's fledgling mount. When Dewshine is there, she is Recognized to the "bird-elf", Tyldak.
In The Siege at Blue Mountain, almost all of the Gliders, including most of the Chosen Eight, are killed when Winnowill's plan to recreate the Palace in the shape of the Great Egg, a repurposed Blue Mountain. Two-Edge is also presumed killed in the destruction of Blue Mountain. Winnowill, regrettably, survived and is left on a deserted island by Tyldak. The Wolfriders survived.
In the aftermath of Cutter's passing, Shuna took residence in the ruins of Blue Mountain, tapping into the magical energies. There she taught members the Insect Tribes and those who later displayed psychic talent the art of Sending. However after Shuna decided to give up her longevity and peacefully die, without her guidance, her students carried on her teachings like a religion, before succumbing to self-worship, and were corrupted by the darker energies of Blue Mountain nearly killing each other. Aurek returned to Abode from the Star Home then came and drove the human psychics away from Blue Mountain and spent his years guarding the area to prevent needless death.
